Roman shades have been around for a long time. Some say they evolved from the days of the Roman Empire named because of the large retractable awnings used in Rome’s Coliseum for sun protection.
Another story is roman shades were used, as wet cloth that was draped over the windows of those that lived in Rome for several reasons. There was much construction going on like that of the Roman Coliseum and other great structures in Rome, these buildings were made of stone which brought lots of dust in the air when being constructed. This allowed the dust to attach itself to the damp cloth helping homes to be filled with less dust and helping the heat from the sun rays to stay out of many homes.
I don’t know how true these explanations are, but they make for interesting conversation. Roman shades are popular in more formal room settings and decor. But they can look beautiful in almost any room, it just depends on the type and color material you choose, and there are of lots of them.
