I have windows that I want some type of window treatment but not really concerned with light or privacy. These could be in a kitchen that overlooks a backyard or a more rule area with no neighbors.

In this case the window treatments are usually up in the day time and down at night. Now that you determined what you want as far as function, you can start looking at different types of window treatments. A couple to consider in this case are cellular shades or roman shades.

  • Both cellular shades and roman shades have some similar characteristics, both are very energy efficient, both are either all the way up to see out or completely down. No slats to tilt like on blinds.

  • How they’re different is roman shades can give you the soft warm feel like drapes. Where cellular shades have more of a clean crisp feel to them. The roman shades usually come with a 6 inch valance made of the same material as the shade.

  • When the roman shades are drawn up, the stack fits under the valance. So your stack at the top is always at least 6 inches. Cellular shades draw up to a very tight stack usually only a couple of inches. As far as price cellular shades are more economically price.

  • So if you have windows that you aren’t too concerned about light control or privacy then a couple of treatments you might want to consider are roman shades and cellular shades.
